Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments analysing the way women are depicted in pop culture. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that analyzes how females are represented in narratives from popular culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in popular culture, she works to raise issues related to harassment targeted at women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after talker. She has also delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist theories. In her final year at university, in 2009 she developed her Feminist Frequency web site. An ambitious woman set out to develop a web-series focused on the gender roles in video games. But, she discovered herself at the center of a harassment online campaign. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won numerous prizes and founded Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies how women are portrayed in popular media narratives.
